Sharon’s Monthly News – May 2024

Good Morning and Happy Monday! Welcome to Sharon’s Monthly News.

One of my goals is to bring my two brands, Selma P. Verde, Author of Young Adult Fiction and Mentoring A Dream (MAD), Helping the adults reach the teens in their lives together and become a cohesive unit. Why? I believe that both brands provide tools for parents and caring adults to understand the issues teens are facing and then create a safe place to talk to their teens about those issues. As we move through 2024, you will see the brands working together more.

The Street’s Way’s release date is this THURSDAY!

I can’t believe that the release of The Street’s Way is happening this week! It is a very exciting time for me as I get to share the continuation of The Way Series story.

The writing process is always a journey with its own twists and turns. When you are an indie author and publisher, the process is more affected by things that happen in your own everyday life. When I look back at how I arrived at this point, I will say that the journey to publishing The Street’s Way has been a challenging one.

Monthly News - From the Writing Desk Image

If you have been a regular reader of my blog, you know there have been some life challenges that have delayed the release of The Street’s Way. When things happen in life that you have to take care of, do what you need to do. I found it hard to set my passion for writing aside to take care of other things. But, my advice in times like these is to get a little bit done each day. And have faith that it will get done; more on its time table than yours sometimes.

Be sure to keep up on the posts this week and look for The Stret’s Way links to purchase via the website or through Amazon.com.

The Street's Way release promo

Here is the back cover blurb to give you a sneak peek!

The Way Series continues with book #3, The Street’s Way.

After a rough sophomore year that landed him in a juvenile correction center, senior Paul Jones is looking ahead toward a bright future, even as he feels his best friend Adam start to slowly slip away. Paul’s girlfriend, Jasmine Marvin, is in the running for valedictorian of her high school class. But she’ll have to study hard amid the challenges at home. Like her brother being out late on the streets every night to try to keep their family safe.

For newcomer Mikala Kalani, the pressures are even more intense. Her mother, so in love with a man who is abusing Mikala, turns a blind eye to Mikala’s pain. So, Mikala decides to leave her home. Believing it will be harder for her stepdad to find her in a big bustling city,
she gets on a bus to Manor City. But there are dangers here she didn’t take into account, especially being homeless in a place she knows nothing about.

When Mikala arrives, she meets a man named Walter at The Salvation Army. He tells her about Monarch House, a temporary residence for homeless teens to get some help and try to make a new start. Little does she know who else she is going to meet: Mateo Marvin, Jasmine’s brother and a leader of a street gang. Mikala realizes she can envision a future with Mateo, but only if he can find a way out of the gang in time.

Be sure to pick up your copies of either the ebook or paperback through the books link on the website (see Selma’s Books link below), or through Amazon.com. I have also ordered some copies that will arrive at my house in a couple of weeks. Want a signed copy of The Street’s Way?
